Advancing Circular Artificial Grass Solutions with Domo® Infinitum
The transition towards a more circular economy requires new approaches to materials, product design and end-of-life management. For the artificial grass industry, this means looking at how materials are selected, used, recovered and processed throughout the life cycle of a sports turf system.
At Domo® Sports Grass, we focus on practical solutions that can support more efficient use of materials and improved end-of-life management.
Our approach includes the use of selected recycled materials, material traceability and product configurations designed with recovery and recycling in mind.
Domo® Infinitum: Designing for Material Recovery
In a circular economy, materials that would otherwise become waste can potentially be used as a resource for new products or applications.
With Domo® Infinitum, we are developing artificial grass configurations with material recovery and recycling in mind.
Our approach focuses on two areas:
- Using recovered materials: incorporating selected recycled materials into new turf components where technically suitable.
- Designing for end-of-life: developing product configurations that can support the recovery and processing of materials when a sports turf system reaches the end of its service life.
Depending on the product configuration and available recycling infrastructure, recovered materials can be processed for use in new turf components or other plastic applications.
Artificial Football Grass with Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic

At Domo® Sports Grass, selected artificial turf systems are available with post-consumer recycled plastic materials.
These materials originate from products that have already entered the consumer waste stream and are processed for use in new applications.
Selected material streams are supported by ISCC PLUS certification, providing a framework for material traceability through the relevant supply chain.
Why Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic?
Using post-consumer recycled plastic gives materials that have already been used an additional application in new products.
Where technically suitable, recycled polymers can be incorporated into artificial turf components, reducing the need for virgin polymer feedstock for those components.
Our material choices are based on the technical requirements of the turf system, including performance, durability and processing requirements.
What happens when an artificial turf system reaches the end of its service life?
End-of-life management is an important part of product design and system development.
Selected Domo® artificial turf configurations are designed with material recovery and recycling routes in mind. Depending on the configuration and available processing infrastructure, recovered materials may be processed for use in new turf components or other plastic applications.
The actual recovery and recycling route depends on factors such as the turf construction, materials used, installation components and available recycling infrastructure.

Domo® Infinitum is our approach to developing turf configurations that facilitate material recovery and recycling.
The objective is to keep materials in use for as long as possible and to explore opportunities for their use in new applications after the turf system has reached the end of its service life.
Recycling old turf through GBN Artificial Grass Recycling
When an existing sports turf pitch is removed, appropriate waste management is an important part of the installation process.
When Domo® Sports Grass manages the installation of a sports pitch, the removed artificial turf is transported to a recycling facility.
Domo® Sports Grass is also a shareholder of GBN Artificial Grass Recycling in the Netherlands. Through this involvement, we support the development of dedicated infrastructure for the collection and processing of used artificial turf.

Can you recycle artificial grass?
Yes, artificial grass is recyclable.The artificial grass range of Domo Sports Grass is at least recyclable into other products. With the Domo Infinitum backing, we can make fully recyclable artificial grass in closed loop circuit. In other words: it becomes 100% renewable.
Is artificial turf made from recycled plastic material?
Whether your artificial grass is made from recycled plastic or not, depends on the manufacturer. Domo Sports Grass offers a range of products you can ask to produce with post-consumer recycled plastic materials. We are therefore ISCC Plus certified and unique in this.
What is the difference between bio-based and renewable materials?
Bio-based raw materials are derived from living organisms, such as different types of crops, wood, and algae. Renewable resources can renew themselves within a certain period of time. These resources can be used sustainably without exhausting natural resources in the long term. They do not always come from biological sources, but also from sources as sunlight or recycled waste material.
Is biobased the same as biodegradable?
Biobased plastics are manufactured entirely or partially from biological sources. However, it's essential to note that biobased plastics do not inherently imply biodegradability or compostability.
