Innovations in materials and turf systems
Performance and material innovation
At Domo® Sports Grass, we develop artificial grass systems that combine sports performance with material and system innovations. Our product development focuses on playability, durability, resource efficiency and options for recycling, depending on the system selected.
Our approach to material innovation
Over the past several years, we have developed artificial grass products incorporating different material and system solutions, including:
-
✅ Biobased material options for selected turf systems
-
✅ Recycling and reuse options for selected turf components
-
✅ Infill-free systems for specific sports applications
-
✅ Water-saving solutions for selected applications
Artificial grass with biobased material options
Our focus is to reduce our carbon emissions (Scope 1 + 2) with 25% by 2025.
We have set targets to reduce our operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) and continue to improve the efficiency of our production processes.
Circular artificial turf products
We aim to reduce waste and develop solutions that support material reuse and recycling.
Solutions aligned with evolving EU microplastics requirements
In response to evolving EU requirements on intentionally added microplastics, Domo® Sports Grass offers alternative infill materials and infill-free systems for selected sports applications.
Our solutions include systems designed to reduce or eliminate the need for synthetic polymer performance infill, depending on the product and configuration.
Infill-saving artificial grass
Infill-saving artificial grass systems support sustainability by minimizing infill waste while also offering benefits like enhanced performance, lower maintenance, and cost efficiency.
Water-saving products
Some sports turf systems are designed to reduce the amount of water required for pitch preparation and maintenance.
Need help choosing the right system?
Why consider alternative sports turf solutions as a club or municipality?
When selecting an artificial sports pitch, clubs and municipalities can consider a range of factors, including performance, maintenance, water use, infill requirements and material choices.
Depending on the system selected, these considerations can offer practical benefits:
- Responsible decision-making:
Choosing a turf system with specific material, maintenance or resource-use characteristics can support the wider objectives of your club or municipality. - Player and community experience:
A well-designed sports facility can provide a consistent playing environment and support regular participation in sport and physical activity. - Maintenance and lifecycle considerations:
Some systems are designed to reduce maintenance requirements, water use or the need for infill replenishment. The potential benefits depend on the specific product, system configuration and intensity of use. - Material and recycling considerations:
Alternative infill solutions, non-infill systems and backing technologies can provide different options for managing materials throughout the service life of a sports pitch. - Project-specific choices:
Every sports facility has different requirements. Factors such as expected use, playing characteristics, maintenance, local conditions and applicable regulations should be considered when selecting the most suitable system.
Our specialists can help you compare the available options and identify a configuration that matches the technical and operational requirements of your project.

Frequently asked questions
Are biobased plastics better than post-consumer recycled materials?
There is no single material choice that is best for every application. Biobased and post-consumer recycled materials have different characteristics and environmental considerations, which should be evaluated according to the specific product, application and production process.
Selected Domo® Sports Grass systems can incorporate biobased materials derived from sugar cane, while other products use post-consumer recycled materials.
When comparing these options, relevant factors can include:
- The origin and type of raw materials
- The proportion of recycled or biobased content
- The production process
- Product performance and service life
- Available recycling routes at end of life
- The environmental impacts documented for the specific material or product
Why consider post-consumer recycled material?
Post-consumer recycled materials can be used in selected artificial turf products. Using recycled material means that material recovered after consumer use is incorporated into a new production process.
Depending on the material and production route, the use of post-consumer recycled content can:
- Reduce the use of virgin raw materials
- Give recovered materials a new application
- Support material recycling and circular material flows
The environmental benefits of a specific material choice should be assessed based on the actual material, production process and relevant environmental data.
